Yeraz Markarian, Ph.D.

Dr. Markarian, the founder and executive director of Healthy Mind, is a licensed clinical psychologist, Director of Psychology at Hackansack University Medical Center, and Adjunct Assistant Professor at Teacher's College, Columbia University.

At Healthy Mind, Dr. Markarian provides individual therapy, family counseling, parenting skills, and divorce counseling.

 

Dr. Markarian offers evidence-based psychotherapy for adults, adolescents, and parents. She combines a warm, empathic approach with teaching concrete skills that can help patients reduce distress, cope with problems, solve life challenges, and work towards creating a more balanced life by accomplishing personal goals. 

 

Her clinical expertise is in the treatment of anxiety, depression, and a cluster of symptoms that can often include suicidal thinking, self-injury, impulsive behavior, difficulty concentrating or explaining why one gets upset, eating issues, or substance abuse.

 

An active member of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT), Dr. Markarian specializes in delivery of evidence-based psychotherapy, specifically CBTDBT, and mindfulness meditation techniques.

In addition to her private practice, Dr. Markarian is on faculty at Hackensack University Medical Center as Director of Psychology. She was previously on faculty as an Assistant Professor at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, where her research interests focused on the treatment of individuals struggling to adjust to a new life after medical illness, as well as the phenomenology of anxiety disorders in children. Specifically, Dr. Markarian has studied cognitive risk factors in the development of anxiety disorders in children and adolescents, as well as the potential for change in parental beliefs as they relate to anxiety in offspring.

Dr. Markarian also supervises psychologists in conducting CBT and spearheads a nationwide training program with colleagues at Mount Sinai and City of Hope in teaching evidence-based CBT skills to newly-trained clinicians and practitioners.

Yeraz Markarian completed her undergraduate work at Columbia University, and received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Fordham University where she was given numerous awards for her academic excellence. She received additional training at Bellevue Hospital, NYU's World Trade Center Program, and Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Markarian is licensed in NY and NJ.
